The Philly remakes keep on coming! The latest classic PIR tune to get a makeover is Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes Disco evergreen, ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’ courtesy of TEDDY DOUGLAS with considerable help from RICHARD “RICARDO” BURTON.
Teddy Boy needs no introduction here – save to say he’s worked with a plethora of top names and was an important figure in the development of the Baltimore “House” Sound via the legendary Basement Boys. More recently our man’s done sterling work with Marcel Russell.
Douglas has always been a fan of the Philly sound, so to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of Philadelphia International Records, he’s decided to offer his version of that rousing Bluenotes’ tune. The original and dub mixes are classic Douglas sounds while the soul connoisseurs will go straight to the epic 12 minutes plus “Philadelphia International tribute mx” – a reverential but rockin’ homage to the craft of Messrs Gamble and Huff. Ricardo Burton belts out the lyrics in best Teddy P fashion and it’s all rather splendid!
‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’ is out now Traxsource promo. Full release August 13th, 2021, on Quantize Recordings.
