DAKOTA JONES is a New York-based blues/soul/funk band spearheaded by Tristan Carter-Jones. The band is tooling up for the August release of their debut album, ‘Black Light’.
As an hors d’oeuvre, the band have released the first single, a funky-bluesy cocktail, ‘I Did It To Myself’. Like the rest of the upcoming LP, the track was produced by Grammy-winning John Wooler – who has worked with everyone from John Lee Hooker and John Hammond to Isaac Hayes and Van Morrison.
We’re told that the uncompromising ‘I Did It To Myself’ is the album opener and Carter-Jones opines that the song laments the woes of adjusting to adulthood. She adds ““I Did It To Myself is about the ups and downs of learning and growing up, and the mess that can ensue. Maybe I’m going too fast and too hard, maybe I need to slow down. But if things get messed up at least, this time, I have no one else to blame. I did it to myself.”
Dakota Jones, ‘I Did It To Myself’ is out June 18. The album ‘Black Light’ will be available from August 27.
