DO THE SAUSAGE ROLL!

Yes, we thought that headline might grab you! In the long history of pop and soul we’ve had dozens and dozens of dance songs and exhortation to do a particular dance. Never, though, have we had a request to ‘Do The Sausage Roll’ . Yes, we’ve had the ‘Mashed Potato’ – but good old sausage roll, no!

Anyway ‘Do The Sausage Roll’ is the new single from veteran soul and funksters, THE NEW MASTERSOUNDS and it’s the first single lifted from the band’s upcoming full album ‘Old School (due out on March 29th 2024.) The single is written, arranged and performed by the four band members Eddie Roberts, Simon Allen, Pete Shandand Joe Tattonat Joe’s studio in the English Peak District and was mixed by Eddie at Color Red Studios in Denver, Colorado which begs the question where were Greggs in all this!

Sonically ‘Do The Sausage Roll’ is a soul-jazz instrumental with a funky undertow with the main melody led by an  old school, wailing Hammond.

Ther band’s PR team tell us that the title ‘Do The Sausage Roll’ clearly implies a response to some kind of hip, teen dance craze. They add that a more imaginative and/or ambitious band might have devised some clever choreographed moves and filmed themselves performing for TikTok, but that would probably have triggered various debilitating age-related injuries. Besides, none of them knows how TikTok works.

The New Mastersounds: ‘Do The Sausage Roll’, digitally released Feb. 16th via One Note Records
