The latest single from JAMES DAY’S wonderful ‘Song, Soul & Spirit’ LP is a new tweak of one the set’s key cuts – ‘It’s All Divine’. With a sweet, sweet vocal from Trina Broussard, the song first surfaced in 2016. James, who likes to rework things, re-imagined it on the album as a ‘Boogie Back’ mix and it won the hearts of the modern soul crowd straight away.
The new “remode” is dubbed the “Smooth Jazz Boogie Days” mix but though it’s sure smooth it’s not “smooth” in that banal, ordinary way… nor is it jazz for that matter despite some great sax blowing. Whatever, it’s a great summer soul song and ticks all the boxes that any modern soul connoisseur would want to tick!
