CHICH AND THE SOUL MESSENGERS are an Australian four piece blues combo and the 7 track EP, ‘Dirty Love’ is their latest release. Musically, it’s a logical extension of their last full album, ‘I’m Alive’; that’s to say it’s a fusion of blues, rock and rustic soul fronted by Chich’s raw vocals and spliced by his biting guitar breaks.
Though the feel is organic and immediate, soul purists will, I believe, find much of the music on the mini-album too rocky for their tastes. That said, the set boasts two excellent covers – a convincing, blues-heavy version of the soul standard ‘If Loving You Is Wrong I Don’t Want To Be Right’ and an authentic take on the blues classic ‘I Call It Stormy Monday’ .
