Regular visitors to www.soulandjazzandfunk.com will know all about drummer DREW SCHULTZ’S album ‘Back To Class’ (see our News and Reviews archive). The ex-FOUR TOPS road band drummer made the album as an affectionate tribute to the music of Motown and what’s more he pledged that a proportion of album royalties would be donated to the Detroit Schools Foundation to assist with musical education.
SCHULTZ made the first donation at Detroit’s Motor City Casino Soundboard Theatre on Thursday December 13th. A cheque for $1,000 dollars was handed over to the Foundation prior to a performance by the FOUR TOPS at the theatre.
“Motown’s inspiration on Detroit has continued through the generations, and the love of music can be felt in the rhythm of the City,” said GLENDA PRICE, president of the Foundation. “It’s through the generous spirit of people like DREW and the legendary artists who worked on this album that our foundation can continue working to enhance and celebrate the tradition of musical excellence in Detroit schools.”
SCHULTZ’S debut record ‘Back to Class’ is still available for purchase on iTunes, CD Baby and Amazon. For more information about SCHULTZ or the ‘Back to Class’ album, visit www.dsdrums.com
