Over the past few years UK niche soul reissue specialist, SOUL DIRECTION have released a couple of delightful 7” singles from cult Atlanta harmony group, THE DECISIONS.
Collectors will know that the group were active in the 60s and early 70s and originally consisted of Hildred Thomason, Fred White, Henry Little, Howard Simpson and Harvey Poole who soon left to join the military leaving the group with a quartet line up. The foursome set up their own label – York and released a couple of singles that meant little or nothing commercially.
The Decisions eventually signed to Sussex Records where they released three singles, enjoying some success with ‘I Can’t Forget About You’ (which was actually the flip to their version of Burt Bacharach’s ‘It’s Love That Really Counts) and ‘Stop Playing Around’. The Decisions stayed with Sussex till 1973 then split – with three of the group going on to form Unity – a band that recorded for Apex Records.
That seemed to be that… until years and years down the line Soul Direction stepped in an allowed us to enjoy the quality harmony soul that the Decisions delivered. Now, after months of hard work and soul sleuthing, the team at SD have managed to put together a whole album on the Decisions!
Tilted ‘Color Me Blue’, the 14 tracker offers tracks that the band recorded for both York and Sussex and there’s 3 previously unreleased tracks never before issued in any form. Not all the group’s material is included (‘It’s Love That Really Counts’ is notably absent) but for fans of harmony, group soul this vinyl LP has to be unmissable. It’s released 25th OCTOBER (PRE-ORDER FROM 27th SEPTEMBER 2024) learn more @ https://soul-direction.co.uk/
