The sad passing of CURTIS MAYFIELD in 1999 left an unfillable gap in the music scene. He was and still is sadly missed and artists across all sorts of genres constantly offer homage and tributes to the “gentle genius”.
Latest band to join the Curtis Mayfield “club” are Hamburg-based soul outfit ANGELS OF LIBRA who’ve just released a sweet and lovely, ‘Curtis (Do You Wanna Be A Star?)’.
The release comes hot on the heels of their early October single, ‘No, No, No’ which featured a soulful vocal from German songstress MAIIAH. For the new ‘Curtis (Do You Wanna Be A Star?)’, the band bring back to the mic Irish singer, NATHAN JOHNSON, who fronted their previous two singles.
Nathan has a convincing blue-eyed soul voice and he delivers the song with conviction. The cherry on the cake through is the clever full-on production (including a gorgeous sax solo) which perfectly complements the Mayfield inspired sentiments.
