
Celebrated US jazz guitarist Dean Brown died on Friday, January 26th. Few details are currently forthcoming, save that he’d been fighting an aggressive form of cancer.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, his first major gig was with the Billy Cobham Band. After that he worked with a who’s who of jazz/soul/rock talent – people like Marcus Miller, David Sanborn, Eric Clapton, Bill Evans, George Duke, the Brecker Brothers, Lalah Hathaway, Joe Zawinul, Bob James and Roberta Flack.
Solo, Brown released five albums – the last being 2016’s ‘Rolajafufu’. Stats reveal that the guitarist played sessions on over a hundred albums. Dean Brown was also an acclaimed music educator.
