JOE MARCINEK is a lauded US guitarist who with his eponymous “band” regularly delivers his contemporary take on the blues, New Orleans style funk and rock and psychedelia in the manner of, say, the Grateful Dead. His previous six albums have passed us by – a tad too rocky for SJF sensitivities. But his latest long player, ‘Dead Funk Summit’ offers a selection of cuts worth investigating for those who still hanker for classic, electric blues.
‘Still Got It’ is a blistering take on the genre. At the other end of the musical spectrum, the laid back ‘Ethereal’ is , well “ethereal”.
For this album’ Joe’s band includes Michael Lemmler (keys) and Terrence Houston (drums). Melvin Seals (from the Jerry Garcia Band) added extra keys while the bass parts come via legendary New Orleans bass man George Porter Jr.
