Yorkshire-born soulstress SULENE FLEMING is maybe best known for her work with Bluey Maunick, the Fantastics and the Brand New Heavies but her CV is stuffed with sessions and work with plenty more top names. More recently she worked with Dimitris Dimopoulos in the unusually named DIMITRIS & SULENE!
For her latest outing Ms F has teamed up with another Greek muso – Kostas Stoimenidis. who’s now based in Toronto and works as STOIM. He’s been on the Canadian house scene for something like 20 years and has released tunes on labels like Double Cheese Records, Soul N’ Pepa, Soulstice, Groove Culture, Celsius Degree, Arawakan and Funk Hut.
The Stoim/Sulene F collaboration sees Mr S return to Soul N’ Pepa – and what a return! Their tune, ‘Come To Me Again’, ticks all the best soulful houses boxes (emphasis on the “soul” in “soulful”) – there’s smooth keys, beefy horns, sweet, Philly-inspired strings, tight beats, a deep bass line and, of course, a stunning vocal. UK Soulful House connoisseur Richard Earnshaw ups the ante with his “revibe” mix – a tad more stripped down with more emphasis on the big vocal.
