CHRISTMAS IS COMING…

One of the signs that Christmas is definitely on its way is when the major record labels start to issue packages on some of their big names in the hope of catching some of the lucrative Christmas present market. Thus BLUE NOTE/DECCA are releasing a Deluxe Edition of GREGORY PORTER’S first ever Christmas album from just last year, ‘Christmas Wish’ while EPIC/LEGACY are releasing a LUTHER VANDROSS greatest hits album!

Of course to tempt buyers and fans, the new releases have to be just a little different. So, the Porter set includes one “new” previously unheard track – the man’s version of the James Bond theme song, ‘We Have All the Time in the World’, with UK producers Cam Blackwood & Swindle. You’ll  know the original  was down to Louis Armstrong; here Porter puts his distinctive spin on it. If you know the original album, you’ll also know that the included Porter song, ‘Everything’s Not Lost’ is worth the ticket price alone!

The Deluxe Edition of Christmas Wish’ is released by Blue Note/Decca on 6th December.

We’ve lost count of how many greatest hits collections there have been on the late, very much missed Luther Vandross. The USP of this collection – titled ‘Never To Much’(what a surprise!) is the inclusion of a never before heard Luther track – his version of the Beatles’ ‘Michelle’.

The provenance of the track is shrouded in mystery but we’re told that longtime Luther backing singer Fonzi Thronton found it on an old cassette! The other previously unreleased track is a Louis Vega radio remix of ‘Get Myself Together’. You can probably guess the other 20 tracks.

Luther’s ‘Never Too Much’ hits set is released December 13th
