Wow, the Christmas turkeys have started to drop early this year! Earlier this month Stax/Craft announced an upcoming Christmas compilation while the Essential Media Group have just reissued a vintage Christmas record… FUNK MACHINE’S ‘Soul Santa (parts 1 and 2).
The record was originally released on the Creative Funk label in 1973 and the tune is very much of that period. Rough-hewn, tough and unrelenting and stretching over the obligatory two parts. It’s decent 70s funk with the Christmas concessions being the lyric the jingle bells intro.
‘Soul Santa’ has been reissued before – most recently on one of those Tramp label compilation but if you’re yearning for mistletoe and wine, baubles, crackers, turkey et al, you may want to check this one out!
