Proper soul fans will be thrilled to learn that in March, UMC will be releasing a third box set containing seven 7″ vinyl records of classic Chess recordings.
The 14 tracks that make up the collection come from right across the Chess catalogue (Chess, Checker, Cadet and Argo) and they’ve been curated by Ady Croasdell. Within ‘CHESS NORTHERN SOUL VOL III’ you’ll enjoy wonderful soul from people like Gene Chandler (‘Such A Pretty Thing’), Mitty Collier (‘Pain’) and The Knight Brothers (‘City Life’). Two of the tracks (Bobby Womack’s ‘See Me Through’ and Jo Ann Garrett’s ‘Foolish Me’ have never been issued on 7″ before but the rarest treasure in the box is Jeanette Nellis’ 1963 ‘Wait’. Only very few copies of that song were ever pressed and they now fetch big, big bucks.
