Legendary Chicago-born powerhouse vocalist, Chaka Khan, flies into the UK at the weekend to headline the Saturday bill at the Love Supreme festival in Glynde, Sussex. After that she’s due to perform three nights at the fabled Ronnie Scott’s jazz club in the heart of Soho. The ten-times Grammy winner is due to appear on Monday 6th, Tuesday 7th July, and Thursday 9th July. Her band comprises Melvin Davis on bass, Ron Bruner on drums, keyboardist Jesse Milliner, Bruno Muller on guitar with Tiffany Smith, Vanessa Haynes and Tony Momrelle supplying background vocals. Sadly, all three shows are now sold out but look out for a review on the SJF website at the end of next week.
For those that can’t get enough of Chaka, on the 17th of August Universal Music in the UK release a boxed set called ‘Rufus & Chaka Khan – Classic Album Selection,’ a 6-CD set that includes the ’70s ABC LPs ‘Rufus ,’ ‘Rags to Rufus ,’ ‘Rufusized,’ ‘Rufus feat Chaka Khan,’ ‘Ask Rufus,’ and ‘Street Player.’
