Wow … was it really as long ago as 1979 that Inner Life wowed us with their classic dancer, ‘I’m Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)’? It featured, of course, a big vocal from dear JOCELYN BROWN and the final mix was one of JOHN MORALES’ early excursions into the crazy world of dance music!
Now years down the line Jocelyn and John have got together to revisit the Patrick Adams penned tune! Mr M recalls: “In 1978, after meeting Greg Carmichael and Patrick Adams at New York’s Sunshine Sound, Greg asked me if I wanted to mix his next release and being a newcomer to the mix game, of course said “Yes”! I walked into Nola Studio’s on a Saturday night at 3am and in the booth was Jocelyn Brown singing “I’m Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)”. After the session, I got to speak to her and now, 45 years later, I call her one of my dearest friends and confidants. We have lived an amazing, historical music journey and there is no other singer I’m prouder to have worked with. Now, in 2024, we’ve come full circle revisiting “I’m Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)”: a track which has taken the best part of a two years for me to complete.”
Wow (again!) two years is a longtime, but the wait’s been worth it. This new ‘I’m Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)’ is a powerful thing! The vocal? Well, it’s Jocelyn – enough said, while 40 odd years down the line, John’s desk-skills are peerless. He knows what’s needed and he delivers! To my ageing ears, these new versions (main, classic, and instrumental) are just a little faster than the original – just right for today’s young shavers!
‘I’m Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)’ (John Morales M+M Mixes) will be released on Traxsource promo March 29th / Full release April 12th 2024 on Quantize Recordings.
