BENJAMIN RACE (below) is a UK based bass player and music producer. His passion is soul (a love he inheritedfrom his father). He’s worked with people like Alexander O’Neil, Soweto Kinch , the Doggett Brothers and members of Incognito and Jamiroquai. Endorsed by Warwick bass guitars and Ernie Ball strings, he’s been mentored by garlanded bass players like Victor Wooten, John Patitucci and Julian Crampton – who works with the Reel People collective and the Sunburst Band
Moving into production, Ben has released music under his “HD” brand – with successful albums like 2018’s ‘Everything Is Energy’ to the name while on the tech side he’s been shown his way round the mixing desk by Bobby Owsinski – who is widely regarded as one of the best mixing engineers in the business. As a little extra bonus our man’s also had some one-to-one guidance and inspiration from the legendary David Foster, one of the most successful songwriters and record producers in history.
So with such a comprehensive CV and some big names in his corner., little wonder that Mr Race’s upcoming single is already being touted as one of the tracks of the year by soul tastemakers lucky enough to have had a sneak preview. The cut is a big, beefy ‘Take You Home’ which ticks all the same boxes as all those great 80s Weekender tunes. It’s a properly “up” tune and one of those rare cuts where all the ingredients seem to come together effortlessly. One of those key elements is the committed soulful vocal from Ellison Kendrick (currently promoting his own album ‘Rated E’). Benjamin and Ellison have worked together before and there’s a clear empathy between them. The track rides a thumping bass line – you’d expect that though and listen up too to a gorgeous horn solo. Modern soul perfection – no kidding!
