Remember the band CALLOWAY? Sure you do. The brothers (Reggie and Vincent Calloway ) were big in 1989 with their debut album spawning the chart hit ‘I Wanna Be Rich’. Since those heady days the boys have been busy – performing, writing and producing but recently after reflecting on how the world has changed since their heyday, they decided to revisit that signature song.
The original ‘I Wanna Be Rich’ reflected the money-centric times in which it was created but now the boys suggest that the song conveys a powerful desire for a prosperous life of “love, peace, and happiness.” They say: “ ‘I Wanna Be Rich’ is an especially important song to us among the others in our catalogue. It communicates in the most primal way by saying what people want to say out loud, but often keep to themselves. So many of us are taught that money and riches are only available to others, or that money is somehow inherently evil. We turn that around and empower people with this song.”
If that intrigues you, you’ll need to know that the new Calloway version of ‘I Wanna Be Rich’ (remixed by GRAMMY nominated producer Darius “Phonix” Barnes) is out now via Spiral Galaxy Entertainment
