American singer/songwriter/producer and author, BUZZ CASON died on Sunday, June 16th aged 84. Based in Nashville, Cason was a respected figure in the country music community. He began his lengthy career in rock and roll bands before moving more into writing and production, though he also continued to perform.
Amongst his best known songs at the lovely ‘Sandy’ (originally recorded by Ronny and the Daytonas… Cason was a member) and of course, ‘Everlasting Love’, ‘Rainbow Valley’ and ‘Love On A Mountaintop’ – all soul hits for Robert Knight and all three covered many, many times. Amongst his other compositions was 1962’s ‘Soldier Of Love’ – originally recorded by Arthur Alexander. The song became a staple in the repertoires of many early 60s beat bands including the Beatles.
