BURT BACHARACH DIES….

The legendary musician/writer/producer BURT BACHARACH died yesterday, Wednesday 8th February. He was aged 94 and the sad news was announced by his publicist. Few details are known save that he passed away at his home in Los Angeles.

To list Bacharach’s achievements would be a gargantuan task. Suffice to say, first working with Hal David and later collaborating with other lyricists he created some of the most memorable, enduring pop songs of the modern era. His catalogue is second to none and his songs have been recorded by most major artists – including the Beatles. The most noted interpreter of his songs, though, is Dionne Warwick, though Burt himself was also impressed by the talents of Dusty Springfield.

In a lengthy career, Burt Bacharach won countless awards including six Grammys and three Oscars and in 2012, with Hal David he received the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for popular song, the first time the prize had been awarded to a duo
