BROOKLYNS ARE RECYCLING!

Veteran soul collective BROOKLYN FUNK ESSENTIALS are back amongst us with  feisty, fiery new single which pairs ‘Blow Your Brains Out’ with  ‘Brooklyn Recycles’. Fans of the band will recognize the cuts  –  they first appeared on the band’s debut album ‘Cool & Steady & Easy’! Now considered band classics, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of that album’s release, BFE have re-recorded both!

‘Brains’ is wild and funky, brash and brassy (dig trombonist Ebba Asman and Loïc Gayot on tenor sax) while Alison Limerick’s vocals add power and vitality. ‘Recycles’ was originally recorded as a tribute to Maceo Parker – indeed he played on the original! For the new version BFE’s original trombone player Joshua Roseman takes over ably supported by trumpeter Bassy Bob Brockmann and  saxophonist Paul Shapiro with spoken words from  Everton Sylvester.

We’re told that the title ‘Brooklyn Recycles’ comes from a billboard poster outside the entrance to a Brooklyn subway station, where original producer Kronlund lived at the time of recording. 30 years on, the recycling continues! Out now!
