Over the last few years or so the wonderfully and aptly named CARMICHAEL MUSICLOVER ( real name Antoine Carmichael) has become a cult artist amongst the soul cognoscenti. They lapped up his last three albums ( ‘The Best Thing Yet’, ‘Slow Motion’ and ‘Black Elvis Volume 1’) and, more importantly they (re) discovered his earlier work – he’s been making music since 2008 and has something like a dozen LPs to his credit.
It is however his more recent work that’s won him the love and to further his trajectory, ever-reliable connoisseurs’ label IZIPHO SOUL has chosen two very special Carmichael Musiclover tunes to release on a lovely, little 7” single. The cuts are ‘Bring It Home’ (from last year’s ‘Black Elvis Volume 1’) and ‘Know You Better’ (taken from the 2021 ‘Slow Motion’ album).
The former is a stately groove with a soaring strings perfectly complementing our man’s soulful vocal which glides effortlessly across the octaves The latter is a crisp dancer with a definite 80s vibe and shows a different side to the Musiclover.
