On 26th August Acid Jazz Records will release a blue vinyl reissue of The Brand New Heavies’ self-titled debut album.
Originally released in 1990, the sound of the ‘The Brand New Heavies’ CD was a heady mix of 70s flavoured jazz funk, Donald Byrd and The Mizells alongside a then contemporary London warehouse party vibe. The album captured the zeitgeist and began the group’s journey to international success and 16 Top 40 UK hits and three platinum albums. Within a year the BNHs were playing alongside Earth Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock.
Over the years the BNHs have gone through changes (haven’t we all!!) but that sparkling and soulful debut stands as a testament to a great British outfit!
