The pretty Swiss town of Lugano is the home of power house soul and funk band RE FUNK. Led by drummer Dario Milan and singer-songwriter Maqs Rossi the outfit have been wowing crowds in their home country and on the European festival circuit for a couple of years.
In response to audience demand they’ve just launched their debut LP – ‘Borderline’ – 10 tracks of driving funk and hard soul inspired by their previous collaborations with Pee Wee Ellis. Indeed Mr E joins the band here on ‘Hot N Sweat’ – the title says it all! Yep –funky, big and brassy – the band feature a 6 piece horn section!
The ten tracker offers plenty more funk – like ‘Keep On Dancin” with vocals from Mr Rossi, though on ‘Let Her Lead’ the vocalist is Swiss soul singer Ira May. A little less funky – but intriguing nevertheless is ‘This Time’ – shades of Amy Winehouse.
And the album title… ‘Borderline’? Well Lugano sits right on the Swiss/Italian border – the very area where Re Funk’s music was born.
