For the last few years New Orleans soul man SARGENT TUCKER has been charming us with his beguiling, unpretentious take on the contemporary soul idiom. Think it was back in 2016 that a Drizabone mix of his ‘I Need Your Love’ hit the top of the UK soul chart and since then a series of singles has kept good ‘ole Sarg in the spotlight. Tunes like ‘Let’s Get Away’, ‘Don’t Blame Love’ and the funky ‘One Thing Leads To Another’ were all chart riders and mainstays on the best soul stations… and rightly so!
So, it’s good to have Mr. T back amongst us with a new tune… ‘Don’t You Blow It’. This one’s sweet and gentle with a delicate melody which our man handles with soulful aplomb. The message in the music is fairly clear – the protagonist doesn’t want his lover to throw away what they have but all the charm’s in the music – a wonderful showcase for Tucker’s unique soul style. To quote the title of one of his 2022 singles – ‘Don’t You Blow It’ is simply ‘Good Music’.
