This coming February is BLACK HISTORY MONTH in the USA and to mark the occasion RHINO RECORDS will be reissuing a plethora of classic soul on vinyl and digitally. Amongst the planned releases will be albums from Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, Lil’ Kim and Curtis Mayfield… all to be released on limited edition coloured vinyl. There will also be “first time ever” digital releases from Tevin Campbell, Adina Howard, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Nina Simone and more.
The celebration commences on February 5, 2021 with the release of Donny Hathaway’s ‘A Donny Hathaway Collection,’ The Jungle Brothers ‘Done By The Forces of Nature’ (Deluxe Edition) [Digital Release], and George Benson ‘Breezin’’ and will continue throughout the month.
Rhino will be working with selected independent retailers across the UK to offer prints of alternative covers for each of the limited-edition vinyl releases reimagined by a young artist of colour. These prints will be offered as a gift with purchase for each of the 8 vinyl titles that are part of the campaign.
Rhino add: “Fittingly, 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of Donny Hathaway’s heart-wrenching classic ‘A Song For You’. Hathaway immortally urged, “And when my life is over, remember when we were together,” and this month offers us a chance to come together once again in celebration. “
