PAUL MAC INNES is a Swedish blue eyed soul singer with a particular penchant for all things Motown. Post pandemic his live shows have been going down a storm and one of his own songs in particular was winning plenty of plaudits – a big, lively 60s throwback sound, ‘Falling By The Wayside’.
The song was proving so popular that it was a no brainer for young Paul and producer Mattias Axelsson to go into the studio and commit the song to tape and UK boutique label LRK have just secured the rights to release it.
‘Falling By The Wayside’ is good to go right now digitally with vinyl to come later and the song and production clearly betray Paul’s love for Motown. The song rides along on a joyous bass line that owes more than a little to ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’ while the catchy melody and hooks show that the team behind the song have learnt lots from the way the Motown team put their records together while Paul’s vocal’s have a gritty soulful quality. Indeed this ‘Falling By The Wayside’ fits beautifully with LRK’s mission statement “to release mainly new soul music with a retro feel but with a modern twist”! And in best 60s tradition the release will come with the instrumental on the B side!
You’re probably aware of the issues at the vinyl pressing plants so the LRK people aren’t in a position to give a precise date for the 7” release but they assure us that the track is available digitally right now. Keep your eye on the web site …. https://lrkrecords.bandcamp.com/
