BERNARD WRIGHT DIES…

Soul/jazz  man BERNARD WRIGHT died on Thursday 19th May. US media suggest he was killed in a road traffic accident in Dallas. He was aged 58.

Wright was born in the Jamaica section of Queens, New York and was something of a child prodigy, performing with people like Tom Browne and Lenny White in his teens. He went on to become MD for Roberta Flack, his godmother.

Aged just 17 he was signed to GRP Records where he recorded jazz funk before moving in a more soulful direction. His best known tune is ‘Who Do You Love’. In the 90s, Wright’s music became more gospel orientated. Apart form his own work he played sessions with people like Cameo, Miles Davis, Marcus Miller and Pieces of a Dream
