JOYMASK is an 8-piece music collective of jazz and pop musicians from London and Brighton. Lead singer Rob Lamont explains the Joymask philosophy, “We try to celebrate the vocals and the structure of pop as well as the richness and improvisation of jazz. All while hopefully being funky and danceable!”
You can hear how right he is by investigating the band’s latest 3 track EP, ‘We Can Walk’. It’s Joymask’s fourth release and it follows two full length albums and one other EP. The opening salvo on the EP – the title cut – offers uncompromising funk ; the set’s second song ‘Summer Song’ is an odd mix of hard funk with a hint of Jamiroquai; while the third tune, ‘The New Days’ is much more interesting. Very subtle and jazzy with a funk undertow – with a stretch of imagination you might hear a Steely Dan influence in there!
