We first came across UK soul man JAMES AARON as the lead voice on Ruff N Tumble’s chart hit ‘Only You’. Then Mr A. took to the mic in his own right with the lovely single, ‘Chosen’. The cut made no. 4 in the UK soul chart, and he looks likely to emulate that with his new single ‘Ashanti’. That African/Spanish hybrid word has several meanings – amongst them “beautiful voice” and “beautiful girl”. In the context of this song, that latter definition is the one James is going with.
More laid back than ‘Chosen’, Ashanti’ is smooth and slick with a catchy hook that will really grow on you. Vocally you can hear James’ gospel background (he’s one of the lead singers in the Kingdom Gospel Choir. You may recall they sang at the wedding of Prince Harry, and someone called Megan ) and why he’s first call for various ad campaigns to voice the songs (hear him in the latest Coke ad)
Right now, though, he’s focusing on ‘Ashanti’ – which is out right now!
