It’s been a while since we heard from the great ANTHONY HAMILTON… but now the man’s back… and how! His new song – ripping through the US airways – is a delicious ‘Back Together’, featuring … wait for it…. RICK JAMES!
Here’s the story… ‘Back Together’ was written by Anthony with Ed D Kane and the production’s down to 9th Wonder. Now 9th Wonder’s a big fan of Mr James and dug out an old James sample from the archive and used it on the track helping create some harmonic beauty.
Hamilton says: “Growing up listening to ‘Super Freak’and ‘Fire and Desire’made it impossible not to want to sing. This is when I knew, Rick James would be an all- time favourite. 9th Wonder flipped the sample right in front of me. I wrote the song in a way to make it feel like Rick was singing along with me. ‘Back Together’ pays homage to one of the greats. To me, it’s also about love and getting back together with someone you knew was special. In this time of COVID-19, it took on a new meaning too. It means getting back to our lives. Be close to those who are special to you. We all want to be close to anybody right now.”
‘Back Together’ marks the first release under Anthony’s deal with BMG who will handle his My Music Box label. Next release is likely to be a Hamilton album later this summer. In the meantime enjoy ‘Back Together’… one of this year’s best singles so far.
