To most, UK vocalist SARAH JANE MORRIS is probably best known for her passionate vocal on the Communards 1986 #1 version of ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’. Since then, Ms Morris has made a name for herself as a jazz singer with 15 acclaimed, solo albums to her name. If you know her work, you’ll know she has a soulful, octave-vaulting contralto range and you can hear it in full flow on her new single – her soulful take on the Roberta Flack/Donny Hathaway classic ‘Back Together Again’.
We’re told that Sarah Jane has always loved the song and decided to record it just before Ms Flack died. But after her passing it became imperative to get it out as a tribute. To create some powerful soul magic she then enlisted the support of Italian maestro MARIO BIONDI to take on the Hathaway parts and, my, how he steps up to the plate!
The pair and the production team (Micky More & Andy Tee) put a whole new spin on the song taking it straight to the dance floor though soul connoisseurs will appreciate the duo’s dynamic vocal interplay . Nice cover too – homage to the original. Out now via Irma Records.
