TIM BOWMAN is a US smooth jazz guitarist whose music sort of fits between George Benson and Earl Klugh. Soul folk will have fond memories of a couple of his old tunes…. ‘My Heart To You’ which featured Angela Johnson and the Stokley vocalised ‘All I Need Is Love’.
For his latest project, Tim has chosen to go right back to the 80s and plunder some of the best of that decade’s pop and soul tunes and deliver them with his own smooth jazz spin…hence the title ‘80’s 8.0’. Amongst the chosen songs are ‘Rock With You’, ‘Careless Whisper’, ‘What’s Love Got Do With It’ and ‘The Biggest Part of Me.’
Producer on the album is GRAMMY nominated and chart-topping producer, Wirlie Morris whose soul credentials include work with Charlie Wilson, Norman Brown, Boys II Men, Johnny Gill, Xscape, Keith Sweat, Raheem DeVaughn and more.
Between them Tim and Wirlie have chosen not to tamper too much with the originals. Here there are no off the wall reinventions; rather the duo have decided to allow the beauty of the melodies (delivered in Tim’s inimitable way) to do the talking. Morris says: “Collaborating with Tim on this project made it come to life. Remaking some of my favourite 80’s hit with a smooth jazz vibe is truly one of a kind. Remaking some of my favourite 80’s hits with Tim’s smooth jazz renditions is truly a masterpiece and one that listeners will appreciate for time to come!”
The album’s out now!
