We first came across the wonderfully named LARRY H. SOULMAN in August via his single ‘Life, Liberty, Just Us’. It was an odd song which focused on children harassing other children based on their differences. The motive behind the song was the fact that the singer’s son has autism. Odd or not, the cut won plenty of support and lots of radio plays and though we tried we couldn’t find too much about Mr “Soulman” save that his real name’s Larry Hawthorne and he’s a cancer survivor! Discogs lists just two releases on him – the aforementioned ‘Life, Liberty, Just Us’ and ‘Break It Down’. So it’s good to have new music from the man. He’s just released a new single – a cover of Player’s ‘Baby Come Back’. It’s been covered plenty of times of course – I remember Lisa Stansfield’s version and more recently Heidi Tann offered her take. In truth Larry’s cover stays close to the original, though the vocal’s a lot grittier. It’s out now via i-Ten Records!
