Though we can’t find much about it, we believe that “L’océan de toi” is a cult French movie, set to be released back in 1981 but “thought lost forever”!
We’re told that it’s a romantic thriller and the debut film by enigmatic French director Leroi Alarie. Recently a 35 mm print of the movie was recently unearthed and he has agreed to release it after many requests and much negotiation.
We’re also told that the original score was never to Alarie’s liking – cobbled together at the time with a patchwork of sound library pieces imposed upon him by the film’s producers in order to save money. He was in so much conflict with those producers throughout the shooting and editing of the film that upon completion he took the only existing finished print and refused to have it released.
Well, it’s almost back – with a whole new soundtrack from Aussie music multi tasker, LANCE FERGUSON. While we wait for the movie’s official reissue and the whole soundtrack album, we can enjoy the title track, just released as a standalone single by Pacific Theatre. It’s maybe a cop out to say that the theme to ‘L’océan de toi’ is “cinematic” – but it is. Catchy and atmospheric, it shows yet another side to Ferguson’s musical skills.
