ARTHUR MILES DIES…

US news sources are  reporting the recent death of  jazz, soul and blues musician, ARTHUR MILES. Details are sketchy but his family posted the news on July 31st. He was aged 74 an died in  Orsenigo near Lake Como, Italy. He’d relocated there in 1984 and since then he’d been a regular feature on the Italina festival scene.

Born in Indiana in 1949, Miles began his career as a singer in Richmond, San Francisco fronting various bands. In a long career he worked with people like Edwin Starr, José Feliciano, Big Joe Turner, Johnny Otis, Eddie Vincent, and Jimmy Bo Horne.

After his move to Italy he worked with Zucchero and Gloria Gaynor with whom re-recorded ‘I Will Survive’ and ‘This Love Affair’.

Miless’ best remembered soul recording is his version of the Staples Singers ‘Trippin’ On Your Love’ b/w ‘Helping Hand’, the B side was espoused by the Modern Soul crowd. .
