ANNA-MARIE JOHNSON is a UK soulstress who we first heard of way back when she worked with Billy Freeman and the Drizabone Soul Family. Then in 2017 there was a well-received collaboration with Rhemi, ‘Live Life Free’. At the time we were told that Ms J was gearing up to work on an EP with Ziggy Funk (aka Zaidi Kiggundu). Well, it’s taken its time but the long-promised EP is on its way! It seems that in the meantime, Anna Marie has been really busy working with a plethora of soulful house dons. You may also remember that Anna-Marie’s collaboration with the Journey Men ( a cover of the 90’s Brandy Track ‘Wanna Be Down’) was a Traxsource No. 1 hit in April this year.
Whatever, the long expected solo EP is on its way and the lead/focus track should be good to go next week. It’s a soulful, mid-tempo groove, ‘Waiting For Your Love’. Cool and melodic and featuring jazzy piano, the cut, above all else, shows why Ms Johnson is in such demand as a session singer and why so many soulful house producers want her to front their music!
We believe that this lovely, ‘Waiting For Your Love’ will be the EP’s title track. Anna Maries says: “To get my solo music out there is fulfilling a lifelong ambition. I have been doing so many other people’s projects that it feels amazing to be finally focussing on and taking my own music forward. I’m so delighted that I managed to bring Ziggy Funk on board as producer as his super cool style is exactly what I wanted for the EP and we work so amazingly together.” Recommended!
