(Stuart) MATHER is maybe the hardest working man in the UK music business. He’s one half of two busy duos … Mather and Kingdon and Newlands and Mather but he also has his own successful solo career which is punctuated with a fine, regular series of releases…. and it’s as a solo artist that he’s set to release a new five track EP – poignantly called ‘Finally’ ‘cos his people tell us that this will be his last offering as a solo artist.
The EP’s clear highlight is the mid-tempo groove that is ‘Love You Give’ – ultra catchy and very sweet! Elsewhere ‘Winter Sun’ is a slow jazzy number which features Alan Hook on soprano sax and flute. Hook is there too on ‘Come And Join Us’ while ‘Just Chill’ is a happy-clappy affair that will make you smile. The fifth track is the electro ‘Thank You’.
Mr M will be the first to admit that he doesn’t make game-changing music. He pushes few envelopes… what he does though is craft a classy brand of pop/soul and where he goes next… well, we wait with interest.
