DAVE KEECH is a British soul and jazz trombonist. Originally inspired by his trombone playing grandfather, David has performed across the UK, Europe, and beyond, working with some of the most respected names in jazz. For a time he lived in Japan where he immersed himself in that country’s vibrant jazz scene, performing with small groups and big bands, and also working with leading musical instrument designers. Back in the UK, David founded the JAZZUP club night system – a platform to promote all forms of jazz and to allow young musicians to thrive.
Right now Dave is working on an EP – titled ‘Tokyo’ (for obvious reasons). Whilst we wait we can enjoy the first single, ‘Americanology’ – maybe an odd title given the title of the EP!
That doesn’t really matter. What matters is that the cut is a big sound that fuses retro soul with jazz flavours. The beefy trombone fills are (naturally) to the fore while the vocal’s down to ever-dependable Brit soul man André Espeut. The other players are jazz vets – Binker Golding, Rob Luft, Nikolaj Torp Larsen, Nim Sadot, and Corrie Dick.
DAVE KEECH’S ‘Americanology’ is out now via 33 Jazz.
