RIO 18 is a Welsh band marshalled by CARWYN ELLIS. They have three albums in Welsh to their name but for their latest single, Carwyn has decided to offer something different. He’s written a catchy blue-eyed soul sort of tune and decided to let people who know a thing or two about the genre to take the lead. Thus, Carwyn’s ‘She’s In LA’ is fronted by Mamas Gun/ Young Gun Silver Fox’s ANDY PLATTS. And nowadays where Andy goes so too does his YGSF pal, SHAWN LEE. Shawn adds his production and playing skills to the song (he’s worked with Rio 18 before) .
Sonically this ‘She’s In LA’ is a lovely slice of Low Riding soul, albeit with a blue-eyed soul timbre. Latin rhythms, punchy brass, bonkers flute and Platts’ soulful, velvet textured voice… what’s not to like.
