Some may know that Austrian-born bassist and funk fiend Stefan Redtenbacher leads a collective known as Redtenbacher’s Funkestra whose aim is simply to deliver out-and-out spectacular funk. Though their latest album is a little different. ‘Both Sides Now’ is a tribute to the enigmatic Joni Mitchell and it features quite a guest list… people like Hamish Stuart, Jo Harman, Sarah Jane Morris and Rumer, each choosing to interpret their favourite Mitchell song.
Indeed it’s Rumer that fronts the album’s lead single… a version of ‘Don’t Interrupt The Sorrow’ . It not only shows the purity of Rumer’s voice (why has she been absent for so long) but also the depth the depth of Joni Mitchell’s art.
