Good news for lovers of smooth, soulful jazz in general and particulary for fans of sax supremo BONEY JAMES. The garlanded saxophonist is preparing the release of a new album ‘Slow Burn’ (above) for October release via Concord Records.
We believe that the much anticipated LP will be a ten tracker and it will be Boney’s 19th album. Such his status in the worlds of soul and jazz that Mr J can call on some big names to help him deliver his musical ideas. Thus, joining him on the album are people like bassist Marcus Miller, jazz/gospel keyboardist Cory Henry, multi-instrumentalist Jairus Mozee and cult soul vocalist October London.
London (real name Samuel Erskine) has won plenty of plaudits since the release of his 2016 “presented by Snoop Dogg,” album ‘Color Blind Love’, and on ‘Slow Burn’ you can enjoy his tremendous Marvin Gaye flavoured tenor on the track ‘All I Want Is You’ – a classic slice of smooth jazz/sophisticated soul.
More good news? Boney’s team have decided to release the collaboration as the set’s first single and it’s good to go right now. It’s a sultry slow burner that perfectly fits the ambience which the album’s title hints at and Boney claims that the track is “one of the most exciting vocal collaborations I’ve ever recorded.”
