Over the first part of this year ALEXANDER MORRIS has worked his way into the affections of the UK soul community. You’ll probably know that “Lex” Morris is the current lead singer in the Four Tops. He was handpicked by original Top Duke Fakir who knew of Morris’ gospel pedigree (Morris has his own Gospel church in L.A., the J. Alexander Morris Ministries) but Duke, graciously, has allowed Morris to pursue his own solo career.
So, this year we’ve enjoyed his ‘Change Comin’, ‘Love’s Knockin’’ and the superb ‘Isn’t She A Pretty Girl’. Lex now follows that one up with a double A sider that couples ‘Nothing You Can Do’ with ‘We Gon Get By’. The former is a proper old school soul cut with an opening monologue and a stripped back sound that showcases Lex’s powerful vocal. Lyrically, it’s a story of struggle and hope while ‘Nothing You Can Say’ also highlights Lex’s powerful, raw vocals. The track also features contemporary gospel star Tasha Page-Lockhart on backing vocals.
The single is available now via Angel Dove Global and the good news is that there’s a whole Alexander Morris album on the way. Oddly, it’s going to be called ‘January’. Hope we don’t have to wait that long!
