ACE ACE VINYL 45s!

The UK’s premier archive/reissue label ACE RECORDS has some quality vinyl 45s lined up for imminent release  on its various imprints.

Of real note is the release of Miss Louistine’s version of ‘Con Me’ . This deep soul winner (a Sam Dees song, by the way) was recorded for one of Micheal Thevis’s Atlanta labels but was never commercially available until Ace/Kent placed it on their ‘Atlanta Hotbed of Soul’ compilation. Now you  can enjoy it on quality vinyl with Sam Dees’ version on the B side – a double delight. Label for this one, appropriately, is Deep Soul … Kent’s homage to Dave Godin .

Also on the Ace/Kent release list is the in-demand ‘Don’t Try To Tell Me’ / ‘Laughing On The Outside’ from New Orleans soulstress Berna-Dean Washington. There’s also  a much needed reissue  of Richard Temple’s absolute classic, ‘That Beatin’ Rhythm’ which offers the ‘Cigarette Ashes’ instrumental on the B side. This, of course, was credited to Jimmy Conwell  who actually sang the vocal on the A side! For this one, Ace/Kent have resurrected the famous purple Mirwood livery.

Still available, is a wonderful 7” from the San Fransisco TKOs. This one pairs  the ever popular. ‘Make Up Your Mind’ with a lovely version of Smokey and the Miracles’ ‘Ooh Baby Baby’, which , by coincidence has also just surfaced on Colemine’s Remined label. Little wonder, it’s a respectful, soulful version of the song – a little less lush than the original but, complete with a short monologue, it ticks plenty of boxes! This one’s recommended!
