A SOULFUL JOURNEY….

Keen watchers of the UK soul charts will have noticed that the current highest new entry is a wonderful modern soul dancer called ‘Moving On’ from a FAYE B.

Our research revealed that the lovely Faye hails from Switzerland and that she’s been on the European soul scene for some time. She debuted back in 2012 with a ‘Finally’- collaboration with UK rapper Pyrelli. That was followed by the club friendly ‘Any Other Way’ (a Mike City production, by the way); then in 2014 Faye teamed up with the wonderfully named rapper Big Pooh (from Little Brother) and Louis Bello for the neo-soul flavoured ‘Any Other Way’. That was followed by the collaboration with Keith Murray, ‘Luckiest Man’.

That European success has earned Ms B the nickname “the Swiss R&B queen” and now she’s set to win a bigger audience via her debut solo EP, ‘The Journey Volume 1’ from which the aforementioned ‘Moving On’ is storming the UK soul charts. It’s easy to hear why it’s doing so well; the tune’s a proper modern soul dancer. Totally contemporary, it boasts tight, booming, floor friendly beats and that always infectious retro garnish. It may well remind you of those 90s and noughties club smashes from people like Koffee Brown and Sunshine Anderson.

The good news is that the 6 track EP offers plenty more of the same. ‘So Into You’ is another potential floor filler and though there’s a rap (from Phil Ade) it works beautifully. ‘Real Love’ (no! not THAT ‘Real Love’) is another retro flavoured contemporary dose of sole friendly music.

And just in case you’re thinking that Faye B is simply a dance diva fronting a hot shot producer’s ideas, the lovely lady shows off her soulful pipes on the mid-tempo groove ‘Used To Love Me’ and the sweet ballad, ‘Ready 4 Goodbye’ which comes in two mixes… a full production and a stripped back unplugged take. All good stuff…. but ‘Moving On’ is the brightest jewel in this particular crown.
