DOZJAK is a US musical duo made up of Ben Jackson and Fletcher Dozier. (Hence the name DOZ/JAK) . Ben is a guitarist and keyboardist while Fletcher plays trombone and guitar. The two came together during their stunt in the US military where they formed a band. Together and separately they have worked with people like Dennis Edwards, Larry Waddell of Mint Condition and Speech from Arrested Development.
Between them DozJak make powerful music exemplified by their latest single, ‘Apartheid’ . They describe the recording as a “musical journey that deftly intertwines the genres of jazz, soul, and hip-hop, delivering a powerful narrative that chronicles the harrowing experiences of Apartheid in South Africa and draws poignant parallels to contemporary events in Palestine.”
Drawing on several familiar samples, the spoken word piece is harrowing but heartfelt . It encapsulates the stories of resilience, hope, and the human spirit’s unwavering drive for justice and freedom and though it’s not an easy listen , it’s a powerful statement. Ben Jackson says: “We wanted ‘Apartheid’ to be more than just a song; we wanted it to be a bridge between the past and the present, a vessel of understanding and empathy. Our song is more than just a musical journey; it’s a testament to the power of art in sparking dialogue, igniting social change, and serving as a voice for the voiceless”. It’s out now.
