African music giants, veteran multi-Grammy-winning singer Angélique Kidjo, and relative newcomer and rising superstar, Davido, pooled their talents last month for an infectious and mesmerising new single, ‘Joy.’ Today, the track’s eye-catching new video is unveiled, shot by director Dammy Twitch, who filmed the promo film for the pair’s previous collaboration, 2023’s ‘Na Money.’
Previously working together on Davido’s fourth album, 2023’s Timeless, the two hooked up following a chance encounter in New York this past summer before meeting again recently for a video shoot that took them to Nigeria via St, Tropez. Sung in Yoruba and English, ‘Joy’ is an upbeat anthem of positivity and finding resilience in facing adversity.
‘Joy’ follows in the wake of ‘Sunlight To My Soul,’ Kidjo’s collaboration with esteemed US songwriter Diane Warren and the mighty voices of the Soweto Gospel Choir.
Currently performing on the European leg of her world tour, Kidjo – who picked up the prestigious Polar Music Prize in 2023 – will continue to perform across Europe during October before returning to the US for a handful of shows, which will include a historic performance in celebration of her accomplished 40-year career at New York’s Carnegie Hall this November.
