THE BOOM YEH are a soul and funk band from London. They are band leader Jon Speedy (guitar), Matteo Grassi (bass) and Alessio Barelli (drums); they’re regularly aided by the horns of Ian Bailey, Tom White and Paul Silver. The team have (individually) worked with people like Jamiroquai, The Brand New Heavies, Incognito, Alice Russell and Leroy Hutson.
Right now the Boom Yeh boys are putting the finishing touches to a soon-to-be-released album, ‘Near Earth Objects’, but in time honoured fashion they’ve just released a taster single – a melodic, tight, brassy instrumental with a funky undercurrent, ‘Chronic Tonic’.
We’re told that the tune (and indeed the whole album) is a sort of homage to the sounds of people like George Duke, the Brecker Brothers and Prince. See if you agree by investigating. ‘Chronic Tonic’ is out now via Cosmosium Records.
