Earlier this year, boutique label LRK RECORDS introduced to the soulful talents of Toronto-based singer/songwriter APHROSE (real name Joanna Mohammed). Her sweet and lovely ballad ‘Good Love’ was well-received as was the more “up”, foot-tapping, follow up ‘Ya Ya’.
We were told that there was a whole album on Aphrose on the way. Well, her team tell us that said long player is on its way and it going to be called ‘Roses’ and with a clever serendipity the LRK team are releasing the set’s title track as a tasty hors d’oeuvre.
The ‘Roses’ track has been written by Aphrose with her producer/bassist/keys player Scott McCannell and guitarist Heather Crawford. It begins gently with a ‘Free” flavour before building into a confident mid-tempo groove with a catchy, harmonic hook.
