Without too much fanfare or drum beating, top UK reissue/archive label ACE RECORDS is currently celebrating 45 wonderful years in the business. And what better way to celebrate 45 musical years than by issuing a slew of vinyl 7” singles -which, of course, spin at 45rpm!
I read somewhere that in its garlanded history, Ace (and its various imprints) have issued something like 5,250 records and a massive 549 spin at 45!
Soul collectors will no doubt know (and cherish) the singles on the Kent imprint while the Deep Soul label speaks for itself and, complete with that lovely baroque art work, it’s a loving tribute to one of soul apologist Dave Godin’s famous old labels.
The latest crop of Ace 45s reflects the cross genre/eclectic aspects of the catalogue, offering tunes from artists as diverse as Lloyd Price, Cannonball Adderley, Italian 60s pop star Rita Pavone and outrageous punk rockers, Brute Force.
